took Ken & Donna ut to a rock club meetin and then afild trip for topaz! I was not able o make the climb upthclaim however wes able to see them ablot 200 ft above me plodding along. The altitude they were going for is about 10,000 ft. Heard a few good screams . I then went down to another topaz claim and help some of those . Spotted and aided someone in finding a georgus 1 3/4 inch diameter x 4 inch champeign topas that was a perfect crystal and terninated- estimate value $1700 . Sorry no pic I forgot my cam this morn. I had to come home but left them up the Mtn digging and will see them I supose about 5pm OR LATER digging was good today and I dont think the rain will come till after 5pm. Tomorrow will be big agates from Hartsel . Dick

Well, we made it to the top of the mtn. to look for topaz. Very little found by anyone. Took pictures of the climb, but I think my camera got murdered. Going to check it out later. It was about 1/2 mile STRAIGHT up. And we are flatland touristers. ;D It was longer down because we all climbed in the claim owners truck and rode the first 1/2 mile in from the parking area. So, it was about a mile out, hiking with tools. Ken

Well, we are headed back home tomorrow. Somebody came here and took all the rocks and gold before we got here. Went gold panning today and found nothing. Took a wrong turn and ended up on top of a 13,500 ft. mountain. Ken

Ken, sounds like a bummer that you didn't find anything this time. I guess you will have to hit all the rock shops on the way home and look for some road cuts to "walk through". Might find better stuff there. Have a safe trip home! Fran

We are home. Even the rock shops in Colorado don't have any rocks. Mostly commercial chinese junk. 2200 miles and over $1000 and Donna brought back a small piece of red granite that is everywhere. Ken

Brian, I tried to talk Donna into coming up there and on to Idaho to catmandewe's. She thought it was too far for now. Ken

Friends from Denver came up to South Dakota last month, so they could find decent rocks. South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana are the best places for rocks in this part of the country. Also N.W. Nebraska. You were either too far north or south. Don

Good thing you didn't come here, it would have cost you more than $1000 to buy a trailer to haul your booty home!
Tony
PS- One of my friends just bought a 60 acre patented gold mine and he has no interest in mining it, I already have permission to go look for gold on it if anyone wants to go.
