I purchased an almost 17 pound lot from on in ebay using a buy it now for $60. He was clear that he had put stuff in the box that was likely not worth listing, but was well worth the selling price. I received the box and it looked like absolute crap. I contacted him and was offered the choice of returning the box (less around $15 shipping) or he would refund half the purchase price and I could keep the box. He still insisted the box was worth the money. I decided that paying $30 for crap was worth more than $15 for nothing.
The box contained pea gravel, dust, saw cuttings, pieces that has been checked out with a saw and rejected and other chunks that showed little promise
I am fascinated with boulder opal and I got a tremendous amount of experience working with it which was very valuable, if I ever buy BO again. I have around 4-6 pieces that are marginally worth cabbing and show no flash. Others have been very happy with his parcels. I got a complete dud and am not very happy about it.

This is just mho, but it seems that he worked with you to make good and you said you got a lot of experience cabbing it.
I recently bought a small piece from him for next to nothing (approx 3.00). I bought it basically for practice. After I received the item and left positive feedback. I noticed a few days later no feedback for me so I just dropped him a note.
There was a technical issue on ebays side that would not let his positive feedback show up but I can easily say that he spent way more than 3.00 worth of his time trying to get the issue fixed. I think his customer service is excellent.
Bo is so chancy anyway, and where you haven't cabbed the material before, I'm just curious why you would buy 17 pounds of it at the first go. Just a question, nothing implicated by it.

I thought I made it clear that he tried to work with me. The big issue was what he thought was good value, I thought was crap. I previously bought a 1/2 pound chunk from that I worked with. I am unwilling to spend $$ on a small piece that I can't inspect live. I don't see the point of putting ten pounds of worthless material in a box. I clearly didn't expect chunks of opal. I was hoping for interesting matrix with a little flash.
