I was looking at elementary's post; Am AgtJasp Project: North & South Dakota and saw a Prairie agate that I liked and went on ebay and bought this somewhere around 2 pounds.

Many of those S.D. prairie agates can be awfully nice. Hope you got one of the better ones. You need to get out to S.D., and hunt the grasslands around Railroad Buttes. There are thousands of prairie agates laying around over thousands of acres. I was out there in late June, and came away with several nice agates, including 6 Fairburns. Lots of pet wood and fossils out there too. Don

Pardon me for saying this, but THAT'S SO COOL!
Those indexes/posts actually have an effect. That's awesome! (Like that hunk of rock you just bought! I love the raggedness of the pattern.)
What are you going to do with it? Cut? Cab? or Sit on shelf?

Just wanted to add...I found one very much like it in Wall, SD just the other day. Super cool and I hope to slice this one into slabs. Jo

I'm a big fan of Prairie Agate. I think they are very underrated and if you score a nice one, the patterns and colors are really neat. Tough thing about them is, the exterior often gives no indication about what the interior will be like other than a vague notion of color and pattern. They do tend to weather darker than the interior so it's best to always pick the ones with the most striking patterns and darker colors. The ones showing any red on the exterior are often real eye poppers so those are the ones I usually go for. Dark black and gold lines often produce real scenic pieces. Usually about 1/3 of them are nice and the rest, just real light colored cloudy patterns. No matter what the color though, they all take an incredible polish.....Mel

I'm slabbing it. Saw is too small, but I will figure something out.
