Hi All,
Chris and I just returned from Flint Ridge Park and from the Nethers Farm. We found a good supply of the beautiful flint. It is colored pink, red, brown, mustard color, black, streaks of blue and white or cream colored. I am planning on trying to heat some of the flint but I will just tumble some as is. Chris should post some pictures as he has better luck with that than I do. I can only get them to the Kodak Gallery and I am stopped there. We left home at 7:45 am and returned at 6 pm. It was an awesome trip. If you get the chance please check it out. You don't have to dig to find the flint as it is laying on the surface and in pits that appear to have been dug with a backhoe. It was pretty awesome.
Blessings to All, Tanya

Hey Tanya,
Glad you found Neather's...picking up Flint Ridge stuff can be pretty easy but as you can see by some of the pits the good stuff (read slabbing flint) comes from 5 foot down...the tumbling flint only requires a bucket and shovel...glad you found it!!....Larry

Larry and Toad, Many thanks for your help in finding where to get the flint. There were a couple of knappers down in the pits looking for the flint they needed. They were giving me a lot of very colorful flint from in the pit and had some wonderful arrowheads they had made. We really enjoyed talking with them. The people at the museum had great directions to both locations. If we use up what we have we may go back in the future. I'd love to! We have some pieces that I can't break with a hammer and we don't either one have a saw. Not sure what to do with them. Thanks Again, Tanya

Sure, It is in Ohio, you get off I-70 at Brownsville on Highway 668. This is east of Newark and west of Zanesville. In town you make a turn to the left and then another turn to the right and go 3 miles. The park is on the right. They have directions to the locations to get flint at the museum. The flint is beautiful. They say even better after heating it to 550 to 650 degrees very slowly and holding it there, but it is rather awesome when you pick it up without even being wet. You will love it. I am told it tumbles and polishes beautifully.

Hello everybody!!!! I have some pics..... Like my mom said, we all had a good time. Really, there was pretty much no work involved in finding flint for tumbling at Nethers' farm. Flint knappers ( in thier search for good knapping flint ) pretty much leave perfect tumble sized pieces behind as waste. Actually, the most difficult part is not tripping over the flint on the ground ( falling would result in an E.R. trip, as the ground is pretty much covered in razor sharp bits )! Anyways... on to the pics.... Here are a couple of randomn shots of the ground.... colorful flint, covered in druzy quartz, was literally everywhere.... Along the dirt road through the woods ( deep woods too, lots of shade!!! ) there were pits here and there made by a back-hoe, each one was only about 4' or 5' deep. Each pit had different looking flint in it... one pit had black and white striped flint; another was full of pastel cotors; another was mostly white; etc.... Heck, just before we left I found a pit full of bright red, yellow, black, and white.... Our bucket was almost full, so I didn't get much from there... boy, wouldn't that boulder look good in a garden?!?! Here's a couple of close ups of some rocks I picked up off the ground... And.... of course some pictures of us having just a good ole' time picking up rocks.... My mom ( Tanya, left ), and Diane.... boy, they sure make it look fun, don't they? Diane on the dirt road... Hey, how did Diane get the camera?!?!? Here's me in a pit.... While we were there, we ran into a couple of flint knappers,Brad and.... the other guy's name escapes me right now . Brad had some of his work with him. Some fantastic pieces ( as far as I can tell.... I am definately not an expert After we got home I washed off some pieces to get you guys some decent close ups.... .... just look at the crystals on these pieces..... Well, I guess that's about it.... all in all we had a great time! We are definately planning to go back. Heck, if anyone wants some flint ridge flint, just let me know, I would be happy to go back and get you as much as you want.... Thanks y'all.... Chris
