I was working in Bozeman, MT today and got done early so I went out to the place I found moonstone. Risking life and limb I got the 10 lb's I wanted and probably 45 lb's more if anyone want's to buy some. I can put together two medium flat rate boxes with about 20lbs in each for $35 total including shipping. I don't know much at all about moonstone but I'd guess that at least half is cab/slab material and the other is probably tumble rough. If no one want's them then I'll just toss the rocks away because I don't want to pay for shipping and carrying 45 lb's of rock on a plane is no fun. I fly back out on Friday so I have to know if you want one of the two by noon Friday. I would rather toss it than give it away because I almost killed myself scrambling up and down a 100 ft boulder rock slide to hammer it off a cliff wall for three hours in 90 degrees while watching out for rattlesnakes (saw several shed skins) and spiders the size of cats (they may have eaten the rattlesnakes)! You can imagine the fun it was carrying the rocks back down that slide! Some are pretty big pieces so you might need a ok sized saw. Sorry, the pictures aren't the greatest as I used the camera on my phone. The cliff The moonstone rocks, most of it is pink and some white and they are wet to show the patterns. Thanks and if you are interested send me a pm. Again I have to know by Friday noon. Tim

Thanks Donnie, of course I can wait till whenever you have funds. I'll count you as box #1 and get it sent out Friday morning. I'll be driving over to Billings tomorrow so if I have time I'll go check out the Yellowstone River for agates and pet wood to toss in. Might not be as successful as I usually am as the river is still high with runoff.
I would have taken a picture of the spiders but they ran like gray hounds on eight hairy legs. Spiders don't usually bother me but these were sort of freaking me out as I had to climb the rock slide with hands and feet. I thought I might reach up and squash one in my fingers. I should have used them as Sherpas to haul the rocks back down :-).

Thanks Fossilman, I did stop there and actually found a nice whole fist size Montana Moss agate. Usually that place is picked clean. I then went down to Cody, MT and looked there for a couple hours. I found three more whole Montana moss agates, some nice pink/red agates and some nice display quality pet wood. I really like the pet wood in the Yellowstone River. It's all redwood from the last Yellowstone eruption 300,000 years ago and looks just like drift wood found in the ocean. Tim

Hey, Tim, I'd like a box, and if it could be mostly bigger pieces, that's ok, too. I'll PM you.

Just wondering if you had a couple of rocks left that I could slab on a 10 inch saw?

Sorry Justin, I mailed out the rocks before I flew back home Friday. If you are others have interest I could go hammer off some more when I'm back over in Bozeman in a month or so. Yes, a 10 inch saw would easily handle 90% of what I can break off the cliff. I try to only get stuff that shows flash.

Got mine today!! USPS does it again. Amazing! I will post some pics later when I get a chance to take them. Thank you, Tim! Are there any tricks to cutting or slabbing the moonstone that I need to be aware of? I might have to use my new chisel on a couple of them. I have not worked with moonstone before. Thanks - Donnie

Wow Donnie, I got my box today too but I figured that yours going all the way out to the Keys would take even longer then the Wednesday they told me at the post office. If Tom got his today then the post office might have set new records in delivery. I'm probably not the best person to ask about proper cutting of the stuff. I cut mine just like labradorite so the flashy side is up. Also, if you cut across the grain it tends to be chippy using my tile saw. Those two sort of ugly looking yellow fist size rocks are good Montana Moss agates.
NP Justin, I'll let you know when I'm over there again.

Cut it parallel to the flash. It sometimes helps to cut a slightly higher dome, ( thicker slab ), than you would for normal cabs. Don
