Howdy folks, Cut a couple more of my hunks of various poppy jaspers from the Hornitos region. Thanks for looking.....Mel This first one is a single sample I picked up while on a manzanita crawl. Not real showy stuff so I only grabbed a cabbing hunk to show the variety from this area. Like the deep maroon background but wish the poppies could have been more colorful. Not fifty yards away there were some cool golden poppies. That color would have been super pretty on this background. Closer shot: Strawberry Jasper ( sometimes poppy seed jasper). This one was a sad story. Found a big deposit of this and several other types of poppies in one small area that had been revealed by a roadcut. Got the ranchers permission to surface collect the main deposit and then he promptly got called to duty in Afghanistan and sold the ranch to a rich doctor who built a house right smack on top of the deposit. Second time this happened to me up there. The other time my rancher who gave me permission sold to an NBA basketball player who cut off all my access roads into a BLM site. Too much development is really hurting rock collecting out in California! closer look: Densely packed 1/8 poppies with yellow to white "seeds" in their centers.

Mel, I really like that first one!! It looks like star bursts on a fiery sky! Me, personally, I would like to cab some of that. I bet it makes some fantastic cabs! Donnie

Oh, I love them both and I know what you mean about less and less collecting area. It is really a bummer some times! Fran

Gorgeous samples Mel. Thanks for the stories too, it adds character to the rocks.
