So, Laura thinks that I’m crazy to drive at 4:00 AM to catch a 5:30 AM low tide along the Bay of Fundy. That’s because she has never seen a sunrise on the eastern ocean. I had a 1 hour hike to get to the amygdaloidal basalt with all the agate and jasper, but I really didn’t mind the walk this morning. I couldn’t get Jimi Hendrix out of my head. It’s almost like I was in a purple haze. This is sunrise filmed with natural light settings and no enhancement. It really is this beautiful! McKay Head off in the distance. The Two Brothers With the tourists and rock hounds of summer combing the beaches, I have to hike farther and farther to find material. It took 3 hours of hiking and hunting to gather almost enough to cover the tailgate. Nodule in Brown Jasper Moss/Plume and Banded Agates Agates, Jaspers, Agatized Jaspers Moss and Blue Nodule Quartz Vug and Moss Agates and Jaspers Find of the Day (Back Side) – Jasper and Zeolite Find of the Day (Front Side) – Amethyst (fresh break with all points in tact – happy, happy, happy!) Unknown of the Day (semi-translucent blue-green crystals with inclusions - ?) Darryl.

That's some real pretty stuff! I stand in awe of some of the beautiful rocks you hounders find. Can't do that down here & I can't travel to find them myself. But then again it's probably better that I don't - I would probably be beside myself & way over do it!! ;D Donnie

Thanks for sharing that amazing sunrise! I would think your longer hike really paid off with some beautiful material! I am looking forward to seeing some slabs of these! Fran

Great finds! Beautiful scenery. Are you finding that material loose on the ground or are you breaking it out of it's matrix? Thanks

Carlosinco - Rock collecting on the Bay of Fundy is a little more like hunting easter eggs than a mining expedition. The cliff faces (amygdaloidal bassalt) are typically 100 to 300 feet high and are subject to many freeze/thaw cycles each spring. This breaks up fresh seams and vugs of agate, jasper, chalcedony, amethyst, and numerous zeolites from the cliff faces and scatters them in the talus piles at the base of the cliff. Combine this with the erosion from a 30 - 50 foot vertical tide twice each day and there always seems to be fresh material to find. All you need is hiking boots, gloves, the biggest bucket that you can carry, and a stong determination. It's an incredible place to hunt if you ever have the opportunity.
Darryl.
