That is a beautiful blade... how did you go about attaching the blade to the handle?

Beautiful work. Love the silver lace grips. I'm curious though. How did you keep the blade from breaking right at the black V shaped line ? That must have been a challenge. Don

The knapping work is AMAZING! The sharp edge looks like a shark's tooth. Beautiful shape and balance of the knife, too.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I build a tang on the blade and then form fit it into the handle which is a solid piece of rock.
I don’t understand the question about the v and black line, sorry.
Hey Lee, long time no see. That just might change if we get to make a trip up to Letchworth. You going to be there?

About 2/3 of the way down the blade, there's a black line all the way across the blade, which is in a rounded V shape. While cutting Brazilian agate cabs, I've had them break along lines like this. I'm trying to figure out how the blade held up to the stresses of knapping at that place in the blade. Don

Oh, OK got it now Don. yep I had this rock for almost a year before I would try it, just because I figured it would break somewhere. I was worried when I began to work the rock because of the lines. It turned out all of them were very well healed. I think one flake stepped but it cleared when I flaked it from the other side. Kept my tools groomed while working that blade. Jack

Very beautiful! This material did not relieve any stress whilst working it, but the results are just outstanding. Woody

Beautiful knife! I have a couple questions: Did you heat treat the Agate before you started knapping it? Did you pressure flake it or did you hammer flake it? I'm not a knapper so I'm not sure if I'm using the correct terminology. How long did it take to do the whole job? Bob

Thanks again for the compliments folks. Bob...yes I cooked the slab before pressure flaking it. It's almost impossible to work B-agate without treating it. can't really say how long it takes. I jump from project to project but I will guess that I have 10 to 15 hours in that one. That doesn't count the heat treating time of course. That can take up to 30 hours more or less. Jack
