I have a Raytech TV-5 Tumble-Vibe Tumbler which came with some grits and polish. I am now out of grit and Raytech states to only use Raytech grits however there is nowhere on their site to order any. Can I use other grits??? I tumble Lake Superior agates so if anyone can let me know what the best grits are for this type of polishing and where I can purchase them from I would appreciate it. Right now I am using 100/120 for 7-10 days, then 700F for 2 days, the Iolox 50 for 1 day and then Raybrite TL for 2 days as the last polishing step. Any suggestions for me. Thanks, Robyn

Essentially, grit is grit, is grit. There are only a few manufacturers of silicon carbide (SC) and aluminium oxide (AO), but many, many vendors. All you really have to worry about is getting the right gradiation/particle size. Find a reliable supplier close to you that will minimize the shipping costs. The Rock Shed has competative prices and top notch service, but there may be another vendor closer to home.

Raytech only carries grit kits. Most vibe tumblers work well with 120/220, 500F and a good (submicron) aluminum oxide polish. Quantity lowers price but increases shipping. If there is a distributor in your area it would be best bet. Covington, Rock Shed, Kingsley North are a few distributors with decent prices.

I agree with Daryll! The Rock Shed is no where near local, but still by far the best deal for me!! Just ordered AO polish from them, and got an e-mail telling me the were refunding part of the shipping price because they found out they could ship it cheaper than they had quoted me!! Hard to beat that kind of service!!!! Good luck!

Thanks for the info on the grit. I bought some from the Rock Shed that I cannot wait to use. I have got some killer Lake Superior agates to polish. I will post photos as soon as they are done.
