Here are a couple of pieces of Nephrite found on the Teanaway River, in Washington. The first are cut surfaces, and then the outside. Both pieces are translucent, the smaller one the more so. The vein the larger piece came out of had been blasted sometime in the past, thus the fractures. Woody     |

Nice! Reminds me of the good chromoflec mine jade from over Darrington way except yours has a lighter more pleasing background color....Mel

Very nice! Thanks for that jade tip. I just Google'd the map, it enters the Yakima river near Cle Elum and head waters go back into the Cascades. Seems pretty remote with but has some access. There is a north, center and south fork as well so the search area is vast. I found a reference that there are large serpentine soils exposed all over that area so possibly theres more jade to found  . Road Trip! |

I'm not sure I could have recognized the 2nd and 4th pictures as jade but I'd like to think I would have at least picked up the rock in the 4th picture. It looks pretty neat!

Nephrite is a hard material to learn in the rough. The big key is not the colour, but the fibrous texture, and is toughness. If you hit a jade slick (water worn piece) it rarely chips off a bit, but usually will return your hammer faster than it arrived.

Also, jade will make a nice melodic "ting" sound when you hit it with a hammer while the hammer is flying back at your face. Other rocks make more of a thud sound.
