Any recommendations for a respirator? I'm wanting to pick a real one up and get away from the 3m disposable cloth masks. There are several choices on Amazon that I see, and I'm really not knowledgeable about the technology/types. For lapidary work, what would be the best? I'm not necessarily limited to Amazon, it's just the quickest place to get a good survey of what's out there.
I know it's unavoidable to a degree, but I hate my face being hot which is inherent to covering it and breathing in a small enclosed space of a respirator... but a design that would minimize it would be great.

The latest issue of Rock and Gem magazine has an article about toxic rock dust and respirators. Don

The MSA (Mine Safety Appliance) respirators are very good. Instead of buying online............unless you know what size fits, you should go to an industrial supplier where you can be fitted. If your respirator does not fit properly, it matters not if it is a good one or not. To be properly fitted, you should have a smoke test. They use a truely obnoxious smoke stuff for a fit test. A good respirator, or real one as you put it is baffled so you are not rebreathing the air. Woody

I like my 3M respirator. I keep the straps tight and it's never comfortable. A small price to pay for your health. The article in Rock and Gem spells it out pretty good. Welding supply stores sell them and may help you pick a size. Make sure replacement cartridges can be bought locally if you buy online.
