I found this rock in Oregon while camping. didnt want it at first. went back for it later to find it broke open. It is realy soft on the outside like 2 moss scale.and has strange pattern. it gets harder inside though. I think its too soft to be labradorite or pietersite or pet wood.I can almost carve it with knife.. what could it be? it is really chatoyant. with my luck its a chunk of asbestos. any ideas?

It sure looks like a plagioclase feldspar (labradorite is in that family). This looks very similar to something I found in PA. The local geologist there said it consisted of nuggets of albite moonstone, surrounded and interspersed with a soft serpentine. The moonstone took on a mocha color similar to the serpentine. When dry, it looks like a yucky stone, but, when you cut it... wow!
