Howdy folks, Decided to cut a few Mexican nodules for fun today. Mostly not real spectacular as I'm still trying to find my best Mexican nodule box. Anyway, a few pics. Thanks for looking....Mel Yellow green Laguna with some moss and plume and the lousy "black widow" that often spoils Laguna agate. Another crappy Laguna. Showed a good fortification on the outside which quickly faded to muddy green moss. Two different Agua Nueva Moss with a little fortification in the common white/pink colors. Nicest piece I cut, a Casas Grandes: The leftovers were pretty nice specimens too. The star shaped white fortification piece is a Parcelas Agate that was full of fractures and broke apart.

Like that casas grande a lot. What causes the black widow.

Toad: " Black widows" appear to be fractures filled with manganese inclusions that are often somewhat dusty in nature. There are also sometimes balls of soft manganese resembling sagenite that are spoilers in Chihuahua nodules....Mel

Fantastic Cuts Mel! Thanks for the Black Widow explanation. I have found many in nodules I've cut...and it really does ruin an otherwise perfect specimen. A few of them will make stellar cabs. Steve

Beautiful moss agates. I like the second laguna even though the left side is muddy green the right side looks interesting. Might make a neat cab.
