We went to the Springfield Mass. rock show yesterday. Not to much as far as slabs and rough go and what was there was super expensive. But I did manage to find a few goodies. First are the unknowns. Pet Palm Wood? Sagenite? Rutilated Quartz Imperial Jasper Charoite Not to bad but I was expecting to find a lot more. They had a lot of jewelry and display specimens and fossils.I would have liked to get into the wholesale section but that was for dealers only. The show was in a big air conditioned building at the site of the Eastern states exposition. Hope you like the pics Mike

The chariot looks amazing but I was warned that it can split and chip a lot so be careful when you work it. The one you have marked as saginite looks like rosetta stone to me or a lace variety but the one in the 5th picture is a beautiful saginite! I love the 4th pictures colors. Is that a chilian lapis? I had not seen it fade into the green color before but I love it! I suspect the first two are a semi unikite variety that is more feldspar than epidote. The imperial is outstanding! I love the rutile and the palm looks great too! I think you had a wonderful shopping day! Fran

I'd love to find out what that 5th stone is. I have a small bin of this material and I have no clue as to its origin. I acquired it from the stock of a well-known collector who passed on a while ago. There's no record as to its source. (Not trying to hijack the thread - just adding my photos to help with the "What the hell is it?") Lowell

I'd say that is a great match Lowell only Mike has a nicer more solid piece of it than what is pictured in the link. It sure is beautiful! Fran

Thanks for the help with the ID on that one.I got all the slabs from the same seller except for the Charoite. He had them all marked as 'cutting material'.He was selling mostly fossils and didn't know much about the slabs.
Fran,I'll take your advice on the Charoite. They are polished already so I might cab one and save the other as a display.

Start the charoite at 220. It has a mix of hardness and as said chips easily.

Mike! Bummer that the darn show was so expensive, but it looks like you got some really nice stuff here! Really glad now that we didn't drive up! That stuff you guys ID'd is really sweet and the red imperial jasper is so nice that stuff get so beautiful when cabbed. Charoite has always been a major disappointment to me, like someone said it is one hardness, vertically and another the other way and it always splits and cracks
