Just a few things I've been working on the past week. First the cabs... Royal Aztec Lace Laker Agate. It's bands are so tight it has a Tigers Eye effect Next Echostones....Botswana Agate Laguna (I believe) Now some Yin-Yang attempts. I have owed my neighbor one forever and so I got off my butt and finished one up for her. I had so much fun trying them I had to do a few more. Still perfecting the fit...so don't judge too harshly... Turitella and Gem Silica (1st attempt... )backed with obsidian Dino Bone backed with red slag glass Owyhee and Spiderweb Jasper backed with Obsidian I am hooked!!! Anyone have any thin slabs of Obsidian I can buy?? PM me... Thanks for looking! Steve

Great cabs Steve. I like the ying yang idea, perhaps in black jade and white marble or some such combo but. .. . . . (please don't think I don't love your work, because I do!!) those stone's you used are so cool by themselves. In my humble opinion they don't seem to contrast in the "ying yang" format. That said its best to not take my advice as I can't match my pants to my shirt.

Echostones and yin-yang stones!
I like the non-mexican echo. I don't think I've seen you do one of those before.
As for the yin-yang - I really like the contrast in the last two. The first one's color contrast (green/blue vs black) didn't match up as well as the latter ones - which are great for initial attempts. The last one's juxtaposition of the chaos of the spiderweb with the ordered lines of owyhee I thought was pretty interesting. Now do one of clear chalcedony and blackest obsidian... Or a mocha dendretic stone with snowflake obsidian... Or ....

Well Steve, my breath was taken away by that royal aztec lace! I just love it! my next favorite is the ying yang dino bone. Love how the two are the same but can look so different! I am going to have to try one of those one of these days. May really tick me off though when they won't go together right ...may have to wait to do that . I bet that laker is amazing in person with that effect! I think you have done a wonderful job! Fran

Nice work Steve, they are tough. I've only tried two, not sure I have the patience to do another. I have a template for these if you are interested. I could draw up new ones too any size you want.

Thanks Everyone for Your comments...honest and constructive opinions. I appreciate it! I had to go look up the meaning of Yin-Yang after I read some of the posts....and I still don't understand the full meaning ;D ;D ;D Tony...Thanks but these were done off a template. I know it's hard to tell that...but hopefully they will improve over practice. I will try more solid colored stones...but most of the slabs I have are many colors and patterns. I am not the best when it comes to matching up colors and contrasts...but I sure love trying to. Thanks Again!!! Steve

What kind of obsidian are you looking for? Or just for a good black rock for backing like basalt, jet or similar?
