Here's a couple of pics from when we were at the Jim Coleman Crystal Mine, Jessieville, AR... For some reason I never take many pics when we're there. Jim (top) and Jason looking for quartz. You can only see a small part of the pile in the pic. Looking at piles in the mine. You can't see where they actually dig the quartz. (No one is allowed down there.) Jason taking a break. If you go, be sure to go directly to the mine. When you pay the mining fee at the rock shop, the people that run the mine don't get any of it. I have the directions if anyone wants them. Later, jeri

Looks like fun. I'm dying to get down to Arkansas for some quartz hunting but doubt I'll make it this year I'm in Kansas city. Any pictures of your treasures??

Hi Jeri great pics I love digging quartz crystals at both Coleman mines. Though Jessieville( Jim's mine) is more noted for their clear quartz clusters I prefer Ron Coleman's(Jim's brother) for their over all bigger crystals. I seen a guy find a huge crystal that had about 2'' to 3'' clearance on each side of a 5 gallon bucket and was only 4'' below the Top of it not perfect but still nice. I have had my best luck digging my own at Fischer Mt. in Mt. Ida It may be closed now. Have You ever been to the world championship quartz dig held every October in Mt. Ida it is a fun event. George

It's been too hot to go out and properly clean the crystals. We didn't bring home very much this trip... 103 in the shade, so we didn't stay all day. George, I've heard of the championship dig, but have never been to it... May have to check out Ron's setup one year. Later, jeri

In 1975, my wife and I went to this mine. We had a ball finding quartz crystals. There was not really a pit a that time, so you could dig anywhere. I returned there a few years back and it sure had changed. We still did real good, just not very much in the cluster materal.

Looks hot but fun! Too bad you couldn't get a tour of the mine area! Sometimes that is pretty interesting too! Fran

Last time I went down there it seemed to have lots more hard rocks and less dirt you could sift through. Was disappointing. I have found many good size points at Coleman's but this last time not much bigger than finger sized. Thanks for the pictures Jeri:)

Have never been to the Coleman mine, it sure looks like fun! Have been to the Bear Mountain and Arrowhead mines near Mount Ida. Both places make sure everybody goes home with crystals. Found a monster white tabby at the Arrowhead. It may be time for a field trip, for our rock club, down that away.
