I displayed my case this weekend at the Orangevale,CA show. Yesterday I browsed the dealer's stuff and didn't buy much. My wife has a standing rule "NO MORE ROCKS!!!".......sort of....kinda......if I limit my purchases. I usually wait until she buys some jewelry and I mentally estimate the total and then limit my purchases to about 2/3 of her total. We can coexist with those limits I guess. One of the dealers is exclusively slabs and he has some especially amazing Rocky Butte Jasper. He is an old friend and I run across him quite often at shows. He has been slabbing some of this material for the last few months. This show he had some really large slabs of prime material. I spied a few that I liked and I remembered to bring my large oval template with me today. Here is the one that I got. He was asking $48 for it but I talked him down to $40. Here is the pattern that I want to capture. I have a 4" wide oval elipse template on the slab. I may want to do a slightly larger cab of this though. A close up of the slab Bob

This template is one of many that I have for cabbing. It is a drafting template that I got many years ago from a drafting supply company. You can look them up online but I notice that now they are getting rather pricey. There are very few stationary stores carrying them now probably because manual drafting has been pushed out by doing the work on computers. Bob

WHAT??? With such a master jeweler "at hand" she throws money on jewels? Unbelievable! Beautiful piece, and looking at the size of the template this won't turn into a jewelery piece for sure Adrian

I second Fran's WOW. Gotta love the gigunda dop stick in the pic above the gorgeous slab you're holding. Jo

Beautiful material and cabs. I must say though that it's been a long time since I've seen an alcohol lamp use for heating dop wax. My glass alcohol lamp sits on the window sill now filled with tiny tumbled pieces of Montana moss. Don
