Hi All,
I just received a used Thumler's Model B. I am used to much smaller tumblers and all the instructions I can find about grit go up to 12 lb. This one is 15 lbs. Please someone advise me on how much grit to use for this tumbler. I would like to get a load going today.
Many thanks for all your help, Tanya

I rough grind with a used Model B that I refurbished Tanya. It's a great machine. I usually put a slightly heaping cup of 60/90 for a 7 or 8 day grind of agates.
Maybe that will get you started until you can find a full recipe!

Tanya, in the first 2 stages I use an even cup of grit with good results. I only use 1/2 cup for pre polish and polish, and about 2 cups of plastic pellets. Then on to burnish with 2 cups of pellets for a few days.

Many thanks to you both. This will get me going. I am 64 but feel like a child. I got this from Catmandewe and he sent about 10 lbs of beautiful colorful rocks as well. Looks like all kinds so this is like a treasure hunt.
Regards, Tanya

Tanya, you're still a kid. I'll be 69 in a few weeks. But then you're only as old as you let yourself be.

I feel young. With this new hobby that just keeps growing life is even more exciting. I just wish there were some stones in the Ohio area. We do have Flint Ridge Flint about 2 hours from us and we did go get some that that is about all within a 10 hour drive.
Oh well, it makes me a customer. LOL
This is a Great Place, Tanya

I was born in Cleveland, and lived there until I was 8 yrs old. When I was about 6, I found a beautifully colored piece of pet wood just south east of Cleveland. That pretty much got me started collecting "pretty" rocks. That was in the late 40's. Been collecting ever since. There is nice material to be found in Ohio, but the places where you can still collect are few and far between. Don

Just to add to the confusion the Thumler's B is a 15 lb. tumbler. They supply the same drum to Diamond Pacific for their 12 lb. tumbler. Most people use 1 tablespoon per lb. of the first two steps and less for fine and polish.

Wow Don, One of the sites listed is not 30 miles from me. I will have to go check it out. I have been to and will go again to Flint Ridge for the flint. It is beautiful. I am not really big into fossils and that is most of what is in Ohio. I do love what I saw on that web site. Many thanks. Tanya

Hey Tanya, hope you find some nice stuff. Petrified coral makes nice cabs, and any other fossils you find can always be used for trading material. Don

Hey Tanya, I thought I had sent you some directions for the tumbler as you requested, but upon looking farther they are still sitting on my desk. I pretty much said the same thing as John already told you, about one tablespoon per pound of material for the rough grind and decreasing the amount as you progress through to polish.
Looking forward to seeing your future tumlbes. Have a great day.............Tony

Tony,
It is running now. Can't wait to see the results as well. I am nursing a broken hip so my Husband has to help move this big thing around. I had some Flint Ridge Flint and some St John's Flower Agate from Mary Ann that were in course but not done so I put those and a lot of what you sent. Wow there must be 30 lbs of stone that you sent. Anyway it is tumbling away and I can't wait until next Thursday to open it for the first time.
Thanks Much, Tanya
