When we reached the Pacific, after we got our first thrilling look and dipped our toes in the ocean, we got serious about hunting for beach agates. In the Washington Gem Trails Book, we hit the Point Brown location. We stayed at the Quinault RV Park right on the sandspit and had a wonderful time. Filled about two gallon baggies with Porphyry, Jasper, Brecchia, and others, but... alas we were not lucky in the agate department. I met some locals who had some samples that they found, Carnelian type and beautiful.
When we reached the Oregon Coast, we hit Agate Beach, and still... no luck. I was beginning to think I was jinxed or blind. LOL.
Well, we've been staying at one of the Oregon State Parks (South Beach) and just after Angie and I stepped onto the beach-- BINGO! I picked up a shiny rock that looked like this:
Turned it over and saw this!
I walked up to the first beachrock hounder and showed him. He showed me seven that he had found in the past 15 minutes. Hehe, now I know it's all about location! So, after two trips to the beach, this is what I came home with:
This one is a strong suspect and makes me want to cut it
This was another sneaky one.
The other side in the sun...
This one was really interesting and kinda BO looking (huh?)
Found some fossilized shells. A sign I read today said they come from the Astoria Formation, the buff-colored sandstone cliffs behind the sandy beaches.
I call this one... Fossilized Penguin
Also found some cool jaspery beach rocks
Tomorrow we head inland for a couple days and then hit the beaches one last time. Thanks for looking! Jo
