What size of motor would be needed to drive a 2 wheel 6" Arbor. Could I use an old bench grinder? Dermot.

A 1/3 HP motor should do it for a 2 wheel setup. If the bench grinder has a sealed motor, you should be all right. If the motor is open on the ends, don't use it. Remember, water and electricity don't mix. Don

You could still use the bench grinder motor if you set it up with belt drive. You _might_ be able to get away with 1/4 hp, but it might bog when you're grinding.

If you are shopping used either 1/4 or 1/3 hp. If new buy a 1/3. For some reason 1/3 costs less. 1725 rpm open drip proof or totally enclosed. Beware "open air over" motors.

I don't think you need capacitor start, but capacitor run would be a bonus if you can get it.

contentious duty motor, ( Farm grade ) our better should be used.
1725 - 1750 RPM only, Check wheels for RPM speed range. as said above Hp. rating should be 1/3 - 1/2
Grinders RPM are about 3400, an there not rate`d Contentious duty.
Motors need three wire plugs ( GROUND wire must be used !!! )
Think Safety GFCI !
