All the hearts I've been seeing posted have no wire at the "dimple" or "cleft" at the top of the heart, but instead have a gap...
I'm a bit curious as to why... Avoiding the "cleft" is obviously simpler, but aesthetically it seems like a continuous border around the stone would bring out the heart-shape a bit more.

That's how I do mine.... I try to keep the wire as tight to the stone as possible, but that top part really is a pain .... Here's a couple....

I have not wrapped a heart yet but Chris has shown some wonderful ones! I just love his wraps and he is not here enough showing us what he has done (hint, hint). I like both styles of leaving it an open area as well as filling it in. Each way just makes the heart look a little different. Fran

Honestly Fran, I haven't done any recently.... I got spoiled with the gold and sliver wire, and I haven't been able to get any more ( $$$ ).... Everything I've made is on my Flickr page down there in my signature... I'll make some more soon, copper is cheap.... Roller... Well, I don't know about the best ( have you seen Dee's wraps?!?!?! ) ... ha ha ha....Thanks though, I'll PM you back tomorrow.... FrogAndBearCreations... The backs... I always put alot of thought into the back, to make sure I have the wires right where I need them to hold everything in the right place... and...

The backs are as nice as the fronts! Way cool design, love how it all works very well with the heart shapes

The biggest problem is just the wire and the angle. Chris has it almost as close as you can get with typical square wire. The wire bends with a rounded end so there will always be that little gap.
The only other way I can think of is to carry one side over more then bring it back somehow, or come to the same point and have one wire behind the other. The problem you run into is having the "solution" looking worse than the "problem".
Also, to carry on with the Chris bandwagon... there are a lot of fine wrappers here but Chris is one of the few that has a completely different style than anything else you'll see here. We all have our own twists and nuances of the same format, but Chris and Dee are completely one-of-a-kind on here.

Larry is right though.... it is very difficult to get the wire to bend more than 90 degrees sharply, you'll always end up with a little curve that won't fit into the V at the top of the heart.
I actually did try using a file to " cut " a little notch into the wire one time to allow for a sharper bend. It kind of worked, but made the wire break way to easily.... not someting you'd want to do near the bail.
Oh, and in case you were wondering... The points at the bottom of these wraps were achieved by pinching and twisting the wire. I guess you could try something like that to get the wire into the V of the heart, but that would be very difficult to get right.

Although it would be best to take a jeweler-type course, would it be possible to heat the wire with a torch to achieve the angle and maintain its strength? Seems like hearts offer 2 consistent angles regardless of size - if you had a template of sorts maybe it would be possible to heat the wire and form it to shape?
