Lortone makes a pretty good saw but there are better choices out there. The vice design doesn't work well for hard to cut shapes, and the vice feed is too fast, so the saw goes through blades faster than it should, also leaving saw marks that take additional time to grind out. The rock shed most likely has the best price. www.therockshed.com/equipment12.htmlLee

I would check out Covingyon from JSGems. If it's in the budget, Barranca is offering their super nice 14" with a premium blade for 1599 plus shipping from John at JS Gems. I think the sale prie is fgood until October. Remember, blades are expensive and the difference in price for a better or larger saw would rpobably be worth it. in the medium size saws, it isn't very expensive to upgrade to a slightly larger saw. i have heard the 14" KLortone is a blade eater for sure, not certain about the 12" The cost of extra blades will quickly make up for the difference in price. Also, more expensive saws ar simply heavier duty. my GP8 (Barranca) cabber is powder coated stainless steel and in exery respect, massive. oue club has a new 14" Covington and the Lortone next to it is obviously not as well made.

I am wanting the lortone to cut some big woodward ranch biscuits, plus some biscuit type nodules of carnelian that I am digging in Paint Rock Alabama. I actually prefer the lortone for this kind of cutting because it's clamp is great for clamping wood blocks with nodules glued on. I have used a lortone 12" before as well as a Great Western 18". I think the lortone will be just right for the specific types of cutting I will be doing. Of course , down the road I want some bigger saws too.
