I have tried everything. It's oil for me.

Oil does make the blade last longer and keeps the saw from rusting. It is essential for heat control on larger saws. It is optional on 10"
Oil mist is an issue for me. I use oil in my enclosed 10" Lortone, but use water in my 10" BeaconStarr. I change the water every 2nd or 3rd session. I bleed off water and spray in water all the time. I use cheaper blades and use them faster. It fits me.

I use water with a little "Dawn". I hand feed everything on my 10" and use the hot dog blade. They are sturdier than lapidary blades (.050) so they put up with a lot more abuse and are made to be used with water. I empty it after every use and spray it down with WD-40 to keep the rust and corrosion at bay.

I'd say that it depends on the material you're cutting. If it's a soft or porous material, use water. If it's a hard, non-porous material, use oil for the improved cooling qualities. I keep 2 blades for my 10". a thin blade for water, and a thick blade for oil. I try to do lots of softer material at one time, to lessen the number of times I have to clean my saw and change blades.
