Cut some of this while I mowed the lawn this morning. Have only found a couple of cobbles of this material, kind of like devils Toenails but these have tons of little shell fragments in a very compact limestone. Maybe a bit harder than the toenails too. I apologize for the poor pics. Guess the oil hasn't all dried off yet so it won't wet well. These round cobbles are tough to vise too, This one came loose and I almost lost the blade again. ....Mel

That is great! I saw something similar at the show this weekend. I thought I had bought it but I checked and don't have it...bummer! It looks like you can get some amazing cabs out of it! Fran

Neat stuff Mel! Are there vertebrate fossils to be found in your area? I know Curt finds Mosasaur pieces up around where he is.

Brian: Since we're all lower Cretaceous here, we are in the proper time zone for vertebrate fossils and mosasaur teeth have been found around here but not by me *L*. I'm still looking for my first perfect ammonite too. Most the stuff here seems to be only endocasts and they weather real fast but I'd think the bone would be harder stuff so I keep hoping for that big ole tooth to ad to my collection. I was interested to find my first piece of pet wood on top of the Edwards limestone last year. It was not stream or ocean worn either so I suppose there could have been some land here at one time and the chance for land vertebrate fossils. Or, of course, the wood may be much more recent than the Cretaceous ..Mel

I have some just like that! It's not too hard to cut but I don't know about polishing as I have't gotten that far yet.
