Howdy folks, Got tired of cutting Texas stuff all the time so I dug a couple of rocks out of my Cady Mtns. stash. Here are a few pics...Mel Fluorite Mine Plume agate from way back in on the four wheel drive trails. Should probably be plume jasper as it's opaque. Closer shot that shows the true colors better: This one is from the outflow area of Afton Canyon off Basin Rd. You can drive right to this spot unless the sand has blown in too deep. I got stuck in the sand here so bad one time I had to practically tunnel out. Took hours. This material is called variously rainbow jasper or Cadys jasper/agate. Under a scope it's actually a very fine, compact, multicolored moss agate. Closer shot: I may have posted some of these before but for those of you who like plume, here are a few more examples of Fluorite Mine Plume ; Vein type cut two directions: First perpendicular to vein, second:parallel My favorite plume from the area. This comes in big frothy nodules and is from another deposit down the hill from the vein stuff. This is more of a plume agate. instead of being opaque like the vein stuff. Rough nodule:

Nice plumes. I'm going to have to make a trip out to those Cady mtns some time this winter.

Well I was wondering if you were stuck on Texas material. Nice show of color!

Mel,
Love the stuff! I'm glad you decided to show pictures from your old stomping grounds. I got tired of wishing I could come and hunt in Texas.
I'm actually heading out to the Cady's (if the wife signs my permission slip) for a couple days in mid October. Can't wait.
Thanks for hyping me up again,
Lowell

Oh those are really great! I love the soft wisps and ripples in the close ups in the last picture! Fran

Sweet Plumes Mel! Very neat since it's all self-collected. Steve
