Don't know what to call this, but it sure is neat! It went through the saw last night, and I couldn't really see it good until today. I forgot about it until I had finished changing the oil in the saw and cleaned up, then saw it sitting on the table. Anyway, it looks and acts like a jasper of some kind, but I don't know if the little gray dots or the brown and red blobs are some sort of fossil, or what. Up close and personal: I love slabbing stuff - it's like opening Christmas packages! Tom

Oh, the slab hasn't been shined. I get a good smooth cut from the 10" Lortone, but this picture was taken with the slab under water in a clear plastic leftover container. However, I'm thinking that this material is really going to be nice to work with. Now if it only had a name ...... Tom

It looks to be some kind of rhyolite but those lighter areas and the tan pits will be soft and hard to shine up. May need to use a little super glue to seal it up and then work it. Should turn out nice then! Hope to see a cab soon Tom! Fran
