We just slabbed a small nodule that turned out to contain blue agate. Not blue lace. Has some faint eyes/orbs in it, the "pupil" of the eyes are actually tiny pits. Someone said it might be Holly Blue Agate, but I have inspected some pictures I've found online and I guess I'm still not sure. This person is a nice guy and all, but I have no reason to think he even knows of the existence of any Blue Agates other than Blue Lace from Namibia and Holly Blue, and since it isn't Blue Lace...he concluded that it was Holly Blue. I may keep it as an unknown unless you folks have a better suggestion. One photo shows the sequence of end pieces and slabs, which we cut a little thickish with thoughts of making large cabs. The other photo, I tried to show the outside texture in case that's a clue to its origin. When I make the cabs, I was thinking of making at least one with a faint eye/orb or two on it, but of course the eye/orb is also a pit, so maybe that's not a good idea. I *think* it would look neat but I haven't decided yet... It isn't a deep true blue, more of a grey/blue but definitely blue in person not just on the monitor like some of the Brazil agate I have.

It looks a little like an opaque Montana to me, but that's just a guess.

The skin doesn't look like Montana. Cool, whatever it is.

Kind of looks like a wanabe tube agate. Hard to say. No matter, it really looks great! Fran

I agree with you Peachfront, there is no way that this is a holly blue. It really doesnt look like any of the other blue agates that I am familiar with from N and S America or Africa... And it looks way too light to be Turkish (the rind looks off too).
SO, I guess I can't help.... It is pretty tho.

i have to agree, its not holly blue. holly blue is smaller pieces and more purplish blue color with a very rough outside. looks like a pale montana to me....

The outside rind kinda looks like this agate. This one is a cloudy white color and I got it in a silent auction at a rock show. They said it was a Brazilian agate.

Hmm. Juzwuz's post has me thinking. There was quite a bit of Brazil agate in the same bucket. Not that it necessarily means much since the materials were all mixed up but it does make me stop and think.
