Wow, sorry to hear Stillwell was a bust. I had good luck there.
So, does anybody have any pics to share so that I can be even more bummed out that I didn't make it?

Ken, I found plenty of nice moss and very dense wood at Stillwell. Some of the nicest moss I've ever found in fact.

We went with friends from Abilene club. They went straight to a small hill with an old water tank. I found pretty much everything I collected around that hill. Red/yellow and yellow/white moss. Wood I picked up as garden rock for nice exterior detailing is densest wood I've cut. Comes off the saw with dull sheen. Fifty cents a lb. is a bargain. I found lots of "almost biscuits" too. Looked just like Woodward's but no inclusions. Found a hint in some broken pieces so I'm guessing they have some there somewhere.

I had mixed results from Stillwell. And I haven't cut anything yet, the first place we pulled over I found all kinds of stuff from banded wood to the first fire agate I have ever collected (and not bought) given the chance again I would hunt the hillside above that area. The crazy thing about it is that from all the different rock it almost seemed salted but it wasn't no matter where we went it was the same thing all different but there together. Everyone we talked to that had anything to do with the area didn't care much about the rocks which explains the 50 cents a pound. Would do a day trip there again.

I'm sorry I had to miss this trip, just too expensive to fly there now. Maybe next year I'll have enough miles saved up. Susan, did you get your cabs? I'd like to see what you made with the extra I sent. Mark, send me a PM with your address so I can send "Hoobla" to you. Here's a couple of WWR cabs, hope you got some plumes like these!

Of course Ed, and yeah found a huge black sagenite in red plume today after I cleaned the biggest biscuit ( haven't cut it yet) actually think I found your phone number when my phone synced with gmail a little while back. Oh and yes I wore my ring, as I do everyday unless I am at work or hunting rocks. Will try the phone in the next couple of days.

My truck turned 100,000 This is where we stayed the first night of the camping trip. I love it when Dave smiles! Which way did she go?!?!!? Oh no, they found me! Hunting the East Side. Sunset on Elephant Mountain. Eagle Peak as seen from a gully on the West Side. Jan at work. Mark saying "See ya next year" to Buddy. More later... Later, jeri

Mark and I in front of the rock shop. Ranch signs... On Hwy 118 On Calamity Creek Road (love this one!) At the entrance to the Ranch The ever present Cathedral Mountain as seen from Hwy 118. On Monday we headed down to Stillwell Ranch. This really cool looking tree was between our trucks. 'Sunrise' Tuesday. Donna and Ken relaxing in the shade of their truck. The only shade there was! Wednesday we drove back north... A mountain floating in the clouds. An awesome d i k e formation! Later, jeri

Wow, brings back memories from the very first WWR! I sure miss it. I hope to make it next year but with the economy, I am not getting to excited. I was able to purchase an old estate that has a bunch of old biscuts. I forgot how to cut those suckers! Somebody remind me!

Sherri, you take a knife and cut it across the middle and spread butter on one half and some jelly on the other half and close it and take a bite. ;D ;D ;D

Wednesday we day tripped at WWR. It was our last day with Ken and Donna. After Ken and Donna left us, I had the urge to drive the road completely around WWR. The map reads "Only 4-wheel past this gate". I figured no problem, since I have 4WD. We passed the gate, went up a small steep hill and followed the road. Mark hung his head out the window looking for signs of biscuits. Then we came to the downhill part. Holy shit! Ruts and holes so deep I thought the truck would bottom out and the road angled down the side of hill. I tried to drive with one wheel in the middle, but that didn't last long. We hit the first hole, instinct said steer uphill. I knew the truck would roll over if I did that so I let go of the wheel for a second. Then grabbed it and hung on for dear life! I stopped the truck when we got to a level spot. As I was getting out Mark asked "Going to check your pants?" LOL Yep! After walking around for a couple minutes I climbed back in. The rest of the hill wasn't easy, but I'll spare you the details. I think Jan should change the map to read "Only EXPERIENCED 4-wheel past this gate". OK... Back to pics... Told Jan "See you next year!" Thursday we drove to meet Dan at his folks' place. And camped in the hollow. Friday (on his birthday) Dan took us to hunt pet wood and pet palm. Dan and his mom. (Ever wonder where Dan got his smile?) You can see the rest of my pics here> public.fotki.com/jero/rth/wwr-2011/I'll be posting rock pics in the Specimens Photographs section. Later, jeri
