Had a little spare time last wed-thur went to the west border of Colorado to the bookcliffs. The side of a giant mesa in Palisade/ Grand Junction. The cliffs were formed by the Colorado river . About 8 miles from the Utah border and few more to the yellowcat collecting area that Hawkewind goes to. Had to cross the continental divide at Aspen ( skiers will recognise that ) and there was evidence of new snow - lookout here comes winter. On the way back there had been a good storm and the snowcoverage was about 4 ft deep. still a few aspen trees that had leafs and had turned- nice first look at the cliffs - about 20 miles away the digging area is at the transition area on the cliff 1000 ft below the top. not great findings but did find this - I think it is celsetite I did talk to another he had found drusy amethyst, and beautiful clear barite crystals , sorry no pics. Thanks Dicky

Great pics. I am hoping to find a few collecting sites in Utah and Colorado to determine the route I take to and from Arizona this January. I have the gem trail books, but It's always nice to meet someone local.

Actually the cliffs are the Colorado Plateau uplifted. If you climb to the top it slopes back down to the level of the valley. I lived about 4 miles away from the digging site 200 ftabove the town of Palisade for many years. Too bad I didn't know about the digging there.
