The first and last pics show some pretty nice petrified wood. In the middle pic left is some pretty nice banded agate, bottom is milky quartz, center and right I don't know, but probably leaverites.

I think you are off to a good start. You are correct, a little longer in the coarse but since you know that, you don't really need our help in that area. Looks like you have a nice shine. Keep on tumbling and they will be better each time. Welcome aboard the RTH and keep tumbling and showing us.

will do! second batch is already on day 3, and i'm pretty sure i have a better selection to start off with and a better grasp on correct slurries. first batch had a lot of softer rocks in it that made some really nice cement in the first few days! lol!

With wood as nice as that to be found in your area, you might want to collect as much as you can. I'm sure there are several members who would love to exchange boxes of material with you. Also, look for larger pieces of wood. Many of us are cabbers, and are always looking for new material from new areas to try out.

I am new to the hobby and have a question about the petrified wood. I have found stones here in Arkansas that look similar but I assumed they were sedimentary rock. How can I tell the difference?
