Hey guys I want to do some groove wraps and it looks like the best way is with a Gryphon Grinder. I have a couple of questions.
There are 3 models. Cheapie for $60, Middle for $90, and super deluxe for $150. I may grind a few preforms on it but won't know for sure until I get it. The main function will be groove wrapping. Which do you guys recommend?
What size bit do I need for what size wire?
Thanks!

Curt, I got the twister, because you could set it up at an angle or flat. Also,it has a pump that shoots a good stream of water on the bit.The other models used sponges to wet the bit. The worktable is also larger, about 10 by 13, the next model down is 9by 9.I bought a groove bit,but havent used it yet. That will be a wintertime project.

Curt, set up at an angle, you can sit down and use it easily, instead of standing over it when its flat.I havent used mine much at all yet,got it for future use. If you want to stand, you can put it flat.Anyway, thats what the sales pitch says. Mine is set at the angle and thats how its gonna stay. snuffy

Curt,I have an Inland Lapidary 1mm bit on my cheapie Gryphon, you can use 20/22 gauge wire. They have a 1.4mm bit that works with 16/18 gauge.I get by just fine with the cheap model for grooving.

I have the tiny little gryphon grinder with the groove bit. Paid about $30 for the grinder and $12 for the bit and I'm happy as a pig in slop with it. It get's more use than I thought it would as I use the normal grinding bit to get my rough shapes set for my cabs rather than rough them in on the flat lap, saves time and the grinder bit is a lot cheaper than the lap discs. Anyway, I know its small and uses a sponge, but I love the little guy...lol...

Thanks guys! Snuffy is going to bring his Twister today and let me check it out. That may be the way I go as it has some neat features.
