Hello trimmers. Yesterday I bought a never-used 8" Lortone trim saw. It's been in a garage since first bought. Brand new blade.
The separate 1/3 HP GE motor isn't even wired up for use. The saw comes with pulley, transparent plastic cover, saw shield, saw guard, and a vise for rocks. I've bought a drive belt, a cord and plug, and a motor pulley. I'll be bolting everything down to a common base for use.
The label says "Lortone TS8" , beside it is another narrow label that says, "25th Anniversary". Current manuals for this saw show a plug and opening low on one side of the reservoir to drain it. My saw has no such plug or drain. Does anyone know how it's intended to be filled or drained? Also, at one end of the table through the top is a 5" threaded bolt with one of famed Lortone Knurled knobs on the end. When I took off the top I saw that the bottom end of the bolt pushes down on a floating 2" x 4" against the upward pull of a light spring. Obviously, when the bolt is screwed downward onto the wood, the wood gets pushed down and causes the coolant to rise on the rim of the saw. Any ideas how old this rig may be? The 0.032" blade is painted a rusty red enamel and has a label which states: "This blade contains genuine manmade General Electric diamonds". I have to figure out how to attach a plug and switch to the motor before I can try it out. I sure hope I don't have to take off the whole top each time I want to add or remove coolant! By the way, will water do as a coolant or will I need oil?
Thanks for any info anyone can offer. Cheers! from Robbiejohn.
