Something I have wanted to do for some time was to make an adze from Jade. I have, and use steel adzes in woodworking, and wanted to compare the steel to jade. The Jade is from the Frazer River in British Columbia, and the handle is a piece of Dogwood I have seasoning for several years. Woody

Neat tool. Have you tried it out yet ? The jade should be tough enough for working soft woods.

I was hoping someone would actually post what an Adze is...but I'll have to go search! It must be a sort of chisel from the above comment. Whatever it is...it's very neat and it looks like it could cause alot of hurt. Can I borrow it?!?! no just kidding... Steve

Steve: An adze is a wood working tool used to shape, and smooth a surface. Similar to an axe, but the blade is turned 90 degrees. Jade was used because it is tough, and resists chipping like would obsidian, or agate. Most adzes have an ell shaped handle, but they were also made with a dee shaped handle, and a straight handle. Some straight handle adzes were one piece of jade with the hand grip cut into the adze. Woody

That is pretty neat. How well does it work? Pretty good I imagine.
