Iam looking into getting a 10" saw in the future ... I want a 10" ...an auto feed would be nice but not necessary ... the biggest thing would be cleanliness.!!! Any recommendations? Just how messy are these saws? I have managed to do a highland park cabbing machine in my apt with no problems at all ... i just wipe after a session and everything is fine .... Would an used saw most likely leak compared to a new one?? i have no experience with these ... All suggestions are extremely appreciated !!!!!

If you're going to use it in your apartment, I'd suggest an 8" saw with a water blade. I don't care how good the saw is, you're going to get some spray. Oil will form a fine mist, and cover everything around it.

Raytech's ten is great www.raytech-ind.com/ but like all of them...pricey. Use a tile blade with water and a rust additive or a lapidary blade and live with the shorter life span. And yes oil spray/vapors/mist is almost uncontrollable, you really don't want that in your apt. Dr Joe .

it will be cleaner with an autofeed because you can get a hood w/o holes for your arms.
it is more spray/mist than leaks you need to worry about.
But, my old BeaconStar does leak a bit where the arbor comes out the side of the tank. Also, you periodically have to drain it and take it somewhere and hose out the sludge. A tank with a threaded hole for a pipe you can put a valve on would help.
I think PF10 Power Feed Trim Saw is cleanest. Table is deep. Hood does not have hand holes. Kingsly north has it under $900 fully tricked out.
The Lortone TS10 does not have an autofeed or cross-feed, but is stainless and available fully setup for $630. You can leave water in it and it will not rust.

okay ...lol ... think iam getting this now and yes deb19 thats what i was thinking the ones with the hood wouldnt have any spray ?? maybe I was wrong .. ?? I have a tile saw so no need for trimming with it just cutting slabs ... the part about the hosing it out though raises another question like my steps ... hmmmm we have a basement that has a sump pump ... iam thinking of asking about asking for usage during the day whens noones home ... ...

I have an older Raytech L10S that is a great saw.It has a plastic liner in the tank that makes it easy to clean. To clean the table I use an old shop vac I don't use for anything else.I dump the old oil in a bucket and filter it.My hood is homemade and doesn't fit that snugly so there is a lot of mist when I cut.Dumping rock snot in a sump pump might clog it up.Find a wet vac at a tag sale or flea market.I also have a Covington 10 inch but it is a real pain in the butt to clean and change blades but they make a hood that has removable sides so you can cut by hand.

Greg, if you use a water soluble coolant and drain and save after each use you won't have much sludge build up in the saw. Or plain water and drain after use and either allow water to evaporate or throw it out in an old container. PF10 holds about 1/2 gallon. The Raytech lift out sump would be really nice but price is quite a bit higher than BD or Covington.

I like my ls10, but I would not have bought it if I did not have the 10" trim saw. There is absolutely no way to hand feed or trim with the box-like design of the ls10. But it is a workhorse.
