in PA afew years ago , they started a Mentor hunting license . for kids under 12 . actually no determined age limit . they just have to be in imediate & constant contact with adult superverion and only hold gun will sitting still. this is a great learning oppertunity which also bonds a parent to their child in a new way . i let my daughter , Lydia . try it last year at 7 years old . she did not get any good shots at squirrels . so she really wanted to try more this year . now she is 8 and i could definitly tell that she is ready. after 4 times out this year . she finally got her 1st shot . it was with her .22 cal kid size rifle . she does not really like getting SHOOK with the .410 shotgun she made a very good head shot , on her 1st ever attempt . at about 20yards plus about 40feet up in tree . Thanks for looking . she also wanted to share this picture , that she took . --paul

I think that is wonderful that you two get out together. I was raised on wild game and also went hunting with my Grandfather, not my Dad, but it's good for both of you. Your a great Dad and she's a great shot.

Yiks! I am not in to hunting but she is a great shot and I am glad you use the squirrel instead of letting it go to waste. That is how hunting should be! I absolutely love her fall picture too! You two make a great team! Fran

Good shot, Lydia! I need you down here to clean up the yard some. Darn squirrels rob the parrots of their food & make a mess on the porch. With a shot like that she'd have it done in no time! Squirrel is good! Ate some once a long time ago!

Thanks for all of your comments !! the verdict is in . i finally cooked it up . Suirrels have strong muscles and can be tuff . so i let it marrinate for 3 days . i wanted to make a good 1st impression to Lydia . on the taste of the meat . i told her , that we have to eat what we kill . She LOVED it !! so we can go hunting for more . next time we can get enough for stew . --paul

Awesome Paul!!! Nothing like father and daughter having quality time together. Brian Nope, nothing like chicken. Snuffy My Grandad would take a spoon and crack the heads to eat the brains. Just never could do that. I did enjoy the stew though. Curt

Ain't nothing wrong with shooting rodents - especially to eat. Sounds like a great time.
