Yesterday I was sorting through some of my Obsidian rough looking for a piece of Davis Creek that has the cats eye effect and I came across a 10 lb chunk of Mahogany/Midnight Lace so I decided to slab on it for a while. The slabs turned out terrific with a lot of clear areas. Here is one slab that I polished both sides on. It is 4" tall. Here is a photo that shows its transparency. Bob

Nice and clear, will make some nice cabs. I've been getting a lot of obsidian lately, in particular electric purple and blue, and I've found that it likes to be found in pieces with Mahogany on it.

Learn something every day. I didn't even know there was clear obsidian. Very cool.

That is very cool. I didn't know there was clear obsidian, either, although it makes sense. It would just have an extremely high SiO2 content. Nice re-find! Chuck
