im off to keokuk to mine geodes. i know they're not for tumbling...but they're cool rocks anyway if i get any winners i'll post up pics. also would consider trading unopen geodes for cool rough possibly?

If you get lots .. I's trade a box of rocks for geodes (if my rocks are interesting enough)...I've got lots of rocks from the western US

I'm not familiar with those but I've seen small nodules that were tumbled and they are pretty neat. These were Hausers and the outer matrix is fairly soft rhyolite and when removed the inside is exposed. A neat way to treat too small to cut and display geodes and nodules.

Keokuk geodes have crystals inside thats the reason they are sought, not for their polishing. Most are broken open as cutting can ruin the crystals. George

right! you gotta crack these doods open. they are not for polishing. here's my haul plus the yellow bucket in back. its fun to crack em. anyway, would still consider trades. of course the geodes are a "mystery" untill you open then. the better ones are usually lighter weight and i would try to mix in a representative amount of lighter weight ones. i'll post up a photo of some of them open soon.
