I got these at an an estate sale and would like to know what this is. First, the cab. Here's what the slabs look like, the bottom slab is wet and top is dry. It is pretty soft but takes a great shine. It doesn't soak up water like a sponge even though it's soft. Next, a small piece of this was in a small box so I decided to cab it. It smelled like something organic, it looks like agate embedded in hematite. The metal around the banding is a high polish silver. It is heavy for it's size. Thanks!

Both awesome pieces. If the first one was dyed, there should be signs of dye on the rind.... the matrix looks pretty clean, so I dunno. How hard was it? if it was relatively hard it would be quartz-based, if soft then onyx (calcite).
That second one is killer material! both cabs are awesome!

I would guess the blue is a marble. We have similar brecciated marble in green/grey/black near us. Both are nice, thanks for sharing.
