the cost of drums, even new, will be small compared to the cost of the belts. What is the larger plan. What grits do you anticipate?

Trim saw combo? Is it the LU-6X? I have one I plan to sell and it looks like the drum on the end would have to be removed to change belts. They come with the "exact span" drums which are less expensive, and since you are probably going to have to remove the wheel to change belts anyway you might as well use one. SiC Belts for these are about $3.00 each from rons rocks on ebay.

Don't you like the sanding drum?
I haven't found a 'cheap' place to buy expando wheels, maybe Johnjsgems can enlighten us.
FYI the grinding wheel part of the shaft is 3/4" and the drum part is 1/2" so get bushings accordingly.

I think they are about $55. The belts are about $35 each. There was a thread on some overseas belts that were cheaper even with the shipping.
Just saying the drum and 5 belts can run upto $230. Cheap compared to a set of wheels, but not cheap if one is looking for a low budget option. Then some SiC belts might make sense.
Those red plastic bushings work pretty well.

I got a 6"X1.5" expando drum from Ron's Rocks on Ebay for $42.

I would recommend going with 6" x 1.5". Even if you replace the Exact Span with a standard 2.5" drum it is very hard to replace belts due to pan clearance at end. The $42 price mentioned is the lowest I've heard of. Raytech drums come with the telescopic bushing. I don't know if Lortone is making the old Scott Murray drums again or not but the older ones had a sized center bushing to fit one size only.

New or used. Most folks don't spend a lot of time trying to find an item used if it only costs $40 or $50 bucks. Also, you have not said if you expect to use the belts you already have, or need new belts for the drum. Also, if you only need a few grits, because you have some grits covered elsewhere, ro what. If you want to get going fast, get a new drum and a basic set of belts. I use the 1.5" on my Lortone 6-wheel arbor. I agree that anything wider would be hard to get on and off due to the lip on the pan.

What do you want to spend on them? I have a home made unit that has 2 6" expando drums on it.
