For anyone interested Amber and I have planned a trip out to Nevada and Arizona for this coming January. After speaking with Maryann and Ralph (stonesthatrock) last night we decided to visit Quartzsite on January 21, 22 and 23. We understand that's during the week of the Pow Wow so thought it would be the best time to go there. I know several members here will be selling there during that time and we wanted to invite any others who might be in the area to meet up with us. Its always great to see old friends and we really enjoy meeting new RTHers. Hope to see you there.

We're still deciding between Tucson, Quartzite or the Woodward Ranch Blitz for our annual winter vacation. Leaning towards Woodward, but March is sooo far away.

The local places jack their rates. Most people stay about 10 minutes West in Blythe, CA. Make reservations early. That will be peak days for Quartzite. I'm guessing rental car/motel in Blythe will be cheaper than Quartzite.

Cool Kev. I know we got the last hotel room in Quartzsite, there's only one hotel. Blythe is pretty close so that is probably your best bet.

Tony, the show I do (Cloud's) moved North to Laughlin area 8-10 years ago so, no. We go directly from there to Tucson. Sounds like fun though.

I did the show loop 2 times if I was going to fly in I would start in Va gas. Then move down to the AVI where John sets up in Laughlin. Then move down to Quartzsite stopping at Lake Havasu to see the real London bridge. I liked the drive on the California side of the Colorado river the best and if you are getting a room in Blythe its faster to. You should do Quartzite at a slower pace get to know some of the dealers over a few days then make your best deals. Works great for me and make sure you look all over and tell the dealers what you are looking for you might be floored by what some one pulls out to sell you. When I say look all over that means don't just go to Desert gardens and the Pow Wow go to the flea market area dealers are all snow birds that take time off and rock hound while they are there, and they like to share. Well the big show in Tucson you are on your own I am in funk when that much rock things are in such a small place and that many people are trying to look at them to. The first time I was there I didn't notice that many people as I was blinded by all the rocks. The last time I was there they were doing work on the interstate highways and one that ran right by the shows was cut off from exiting to the shows what a mess, ruined it for me. We might go there or the Cloud show New Years Day as we'll have all the kids and it would be a fun family trip. I've made plans for sure the weekend of the 15th as Larry (Gem 'n I) will be out for his annual audit. I'd like to get back the following weekend to see you guys, but I'm not sure that's doable.

John, I didn't know there was a show in Laughlin at the same time. I don't think we will be able to do both shows in 2 days and the day we drive down from Vegas I want to stop and do some hounding at a few places.
George, thanks for the tips. we went to Tuscon for about 3 hours last year. It rained that day so the show was empty.
Brian, don't worry if you don't make it out to Quartzsite. We are flying out of Phoenix and have an afternoon flight so we can stop by to visit with you and Christa for a bit if you are available.

I wouldn't bother going to Cloud's on New Year's Day. It is supposed to be opening day but most dealers are still setting up or closed since nobody comes out to shop. Kev, you will like Lake Havasu City. You will wish you had your pontoon there. You can also get a cheap room at the AVI, drive two hours to Quartzite and come back for poker. A friend/dealer at Cloud's makes more playing poker than she does selling rocks. We only gamble by eating at the Thursday night half price buffet but to each their own. Fastest way to Quartzite is South on CA 95 to Vidal, cross over to Parker, AZ and catch the AZ 95 right into Quartzite.

Anybody going to Cloud's would be wise to check weather forecast. A lot of the dealers are there to escape the cold where they live so are not full time dealers. If the wind blows or it rains they won't open. We are pretty well enclosed and try to open every day but bad weather equals nobody shopping. We also close at least two days during the month to run home for mail, etc. Monday is traditionally the slowest day and many dealers close Mondays. We usually wait for a really windy day to run home. Just before Pow Wow weekend a percentage pack up and head for Pow Wow and those of us that do Tucson have to be in Tucson shortly after. Any brave souls that do make it to Cloud's please stop by and visit. We are on D row.
