I have a totally worn-out 18" blade - besides being ground down to less than 1/8" of the crimped edge left, and completely smooth, and unable to bring it back after grinding through several obsidian rocks, I've now put a new blade in the saw.
My question is - what should I do with the old one? Is there some alternative use or re-purposing of these old blades that I'm not aware of, or should I just let the garbage men haul it off with the trash?
Thanks,
Tom

Unless you want to try making an 18" flat lap, there's not much that can be done with worn out blades. I guess you could always hang it outside the door with a small hammer, and use it for a dinner bell. Those old blades have a real nice ring to them. Don

Yep, Don, I thought about the flat lap thing, but another issue with this old blade is that it got warped and dished a number of times, and I can no longer get it straight. I'm afraid it would make a really bouncy ride for anything I would try to polish on it as a lap!

It would make a nice target. Get out the Red Rider!

If it has enough of a dish, it'd make a good frisby.

Save them and when you get enough worn out blades you can make a mud saw that cuts lots of slabs at once.

My wife keeps the old blades, I sandblast them, and she paints them.

If you have no use for it Tom, maybe see if there's a rifle range near by. I've heard of them hanging items at the 500 yd mark for guys to have fun shooting at to see who can "ring the bell".
