hello folks, my name is dion. i am new to the art of rock tumbling. it all started on a fishing trip with my 3 year old daughter early this spring. the northern pike werent biting so we found ourselves collecting some rocks. soon we were leaving our fishing rods at home, and all we did was collect rocks until we had all my wifes tupper ware bowls full of them. i began to try and identify some of the stones we found, and thats when we started to focus our attention on agates, particularly the carnelians. soon we had pocket fulls of carnelians, and other agates. i didnt know what we were ever going to do wioth them all so i remembered a rock tumbler that my aunty had when i was a kid. so we bought a 3lb thumlers tumbler. that has led me to here lol. with much trial and error we managed to get a few of the agates looking like glass, but what a learning process. i found the articles on this site very educational so hopefully with your guys and gals help i can start emptying some of those tupperware bowl and refilling them with some polished stones. once i have become a tumbling master i am moving onto purchasing some cab making equipment, so looks like were gonna get to know each other lol. i posted a pic of one of my finished carnelians, and will try to post more pics once i look around a bit. happy tumbling Attachments:

Dion, the first thing you had better do is go buy your wife some more tupperware and while you're at it get yourself some extras for your next non-biting fishing trip. You're about to find out just how addicting rocks can be... Welcome to theforum

Welcome to the forum Dion. Looks like a pretty carnelian to me. I'd say you'd better get buckets because that tupperware is going to fill up fast.

im from northern alberta where the habitat is more suited for moose. we do have deer this far north but they dont seem to be as favorable to the hunters as they do in central or southern alberta. i think they are smaller due to the colder winters and lack of grasslands. i myself dont hunt that much anymore. its too hard to own a rifle nowadays. you would have to be a very dedicated hunter to want to go through the courses and paper work to own a gun. guess id just rather hunt rocks lol.

As you discovered, it is hard not to pick up a stream polished piece of carnelian. The bad part of all this, is discovering that you can make some really top shelf jewelery from the 'rock' you are tumbling with a wee bit of help from some lapidary tools. A good place to further this interest would a nearby rock club. Woody

You're about to find out just how addicting rocks can be... Welcome to theforum Gary lol. Gary. Just got lectured this weekend about using one of my wife's brand new tupperware square bowls to do some drilling with my dremel on some cabs. Oh boy... gotta go buy me one of those cheap sets at the dollar store! Welcome Dion!
