Howdy folks, My wife and I were just down to the pond to feed the geese and she took a couple of pics of the fall colors beginning to show. The deciduous oaks sure do get pretty here in Texas. Thanks for looking......Mel

Yep, I love this time of year here in the sorta middle of God's Country. Mel's where the scenery is even prettier than here where I am - he's rural, I'm suburban, he's hilly, I'm flat. But the trees don't know the difference, so they're pretty here as well!
Thanks for the pictures, Mel!

Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing them. Do you live anywhere near Gruene? I loved that little town. The leaves here have fallen off the trees here for the most part.

Looks beautiful there. Our leaves are mostly gone but there are still some nice looking maples with the leaves still hanging. Our big variety of trees makes for a long and colorful autumn here. They will be one of the few things I'll miss from here when we move in a few years.

Purdy scenery there Mel, I especially like the colorful reflections in the water. Tranquility comes to mind

Beautfiul pics to the Mrs. I wouldn't mind it looking a little like that here right now. It's crappy, cold and wanting to snow. Steve

I sure do love that reflective view! It didn't do the fall colors so much in our south central Texas location when I was there...Too many mesquite trees and they don't do much of anything but give you flat tires with their huge thorns that they drop! Thanks for sharing! Fran

Diane - re: Gruene - it's just on the north-west corner of New Braunfels, which is a few miles up I-35 from me. Mel is a bit farther away, out I-10 northwest of San Antonio. I like Gruene, too - it's so old-timey quaint and Germanic!

Gruene sounds neat. Will have to visit there sometime. Now regarding how you say the town name ( something that gives me fits being a fairly new Texan). If Bourne is pronounced "Bernie" is Gruene pronounced "Greenie"?. I have to go to Cibola Wednesday for my wife's commencement form the Texas master Naturalist program and am at a loss how to pronounce that one too So far I've heard see-bola, sa-bola, sib-ola ans some kind of dern subbola thingee. And how the heck does LLano which would be pronounced Yanno anywhare else somehow come out as Lano with a short "a" as in land instead of "a" as in ah ? Larning my Texican is giving me fits....Mel

LOL! Mel, I think you weren't Texan by birth, but that you got here as soon as you could, so I applaud your attempting to learn the native tongue!
Llano, Texas : yep, it's "Lan-o" like "Land oh"
Cibolo : Sib-ah-low
Gruene: Green
Boerne: Bernie
Tom (Texan by birth and proud of it!) ;D

I'm with you Mel. Everytime we are in Texas we have fun with the Texas names. I usually hear it as El Lan Oh. We are still in Bastrop which I'm guessing is "Bass Strupp".

Tom: Yup, I'm only half a Texan. Mom was a north Texas farm gal and my paternal grandad was a melon farmer in the Nueces River Valley but from Tennessee and Kentuckian roots. I were born in a big yellow house full of black folks in the ghetto of Oakland, CA. Kind of like in the Steve Martin movie the Jerk cept my folks was white and I weren't adopted *L*. For me Texas is kind of like a return to my roots. I had been tempted to move to Tennessee because we got a town named for us there ( so I know how to say the friggin name) but I hear it snows there quite a bit and I draw the line at snow......Mel

Looks real nice there . I drove down through dallas on a long road to elpaso , back in 1990 . I took as long to drive from elpaso to dallas , as from dallas to illinois !
