So a couple of weeks ago one of our tumbler barrels wore out and S/O repaired it with PVC pipe, since he had determined that it was made of a couple of kinds of PVC pipe to begin with. I have to report that it works just fine! HOWEVER.......today I went up to retrieve my rocks from that barrel, really looking forward to it as it was my first start-to-finish load on my own. I had checked it and added just a bit of water on Friday afternoon. Sometime between then and today the cap decided to spring a leak and there was mess all over the bench. No harm to the tumbler, however, and the rocks look great, all bright and shiny (mixed load of mostly agates and jaspers). However, the cap was done for. Once I figured out what it was I was able to find it online. For anybody who gets tumblers and stuff from MJR, it's a 2 inch Qwik Cap by Fernco and is available online from Hardware World for $2.02. I ordered enough so I won't be running out any time soon! ;D

Joe - These are the large PVC barrels on the mill tumblers sold on ebay. The quick cap is just a fubber cup that coves over theend and is held on by a pipe clamp band.
The make the PVCbarrel with a segmetn of 6" or 8" pipe, an end cap, and a reduction fitting to give a narrow mouth at the top. Then they put a rubber cap on the small end of the fitting.
I actually picked up a 10ft length of large diameter PVC pipe at a salvage store, but have never gotten around to ordering the end fittings to make barrels.

Yeah, Dan, the fittings are the expensive parts.
