Yay, Tim! Thanks for reposting this. I was trying to describe it for Scott, but words just can't relate it. It needed the pictures. This is just so creative, what a great idea! Jean

wow!! Tim, that is way cool. I had been contemplating a layered glass sphere. Using various scraps of stained glass. Now you got me thinking about using a bunch of slabs I got from Fish.
thanks for fixing broken images!
Guess I gotta get some beer before I make the next move!

Wow,that is awesome ! What type of sphere machine did you use ? I believe he is using a homemade machine. I stole this image from Tim's web album. I hope he doesn't mind. Tim, I'll modify the post and remove your image if you are not pleased.

Sorry, I missed the updates on this one. Thanks for posting the pic Shotgunner. The sphere machine actually started form a Victor Sphere Machine I got from John (JS) a few years ago. One of the drive gears went out, so I converted it with some of the gear reduction motors from Surplus. Been running great ever since. Tim

A little off topic, but you are the original poster.
Tim, what is your take on 2 head versus 3 head? Your setup seems so simple, but in reality is should work great.

A two head machine is slower and requires more attention, but it is much smaller and makes a truer sphere. I actually bought all the parts to make a three head but decided I don't want to lose that much garage space.

Hi! On my machine, I use the 3-head configuration for grinding and then convert to the 2-head configuration for polishing. The sphere machine does take up quite a bit of garage floor space so if I need to I can easily slide the motors/hinges off of the aluminum extrusion and pack everything away on a shelf.

I have been staring at this box of serpentine slabs for quite a while trying to figure out what to do with them. After pondering for a couple of beers, I came up with an idea. Not sure what to make of it yet. Thanks for looking again. Tim rockjunquie can you please move to sphere section. Thx
