at least most likely! With the weather supposed to be turning bad this weekend, (which it is snowing right now) I decided I better take one last rockhunting trip before winter set in for good. Work has been very slow lately, and my divorce is ongoing still...I figured I had to get out, clear my head and cleanse my soul. I sure picked the perfect weekend I took off early Friday morning and headed to one of my most favorite hunting grounds...just 10 miles past Green River, Utah. I have been to this place many times, and each time I always have great luck. This time was alot different though...I had the best luck ever. The weather was mid 50's overcast with no wind. perfect for hiking my butt off...which I did. First the scenery....
This is about where I park the truck.
This is looking up what one can call a rockhounding paradise. There was a ton of Dino Bone laying around. Small pieces everywhere....I was actually quite shocked!
Looking down the same canyon....
I wanted to keep walking up but a huge washout stopped me. This is where the water rushes down and makes these huge water traps. I would hate to slip into one of these because without a rope you would be stuck!
After I left here I decided to explore more country. It's so serene and beautiful here I could seriously just live out here! I wanted to head for a pyramid shaped mountain but the distance is so decieving...I did make it close but not all the way.
A steep mountian that I made it to the top of. No way down though...but I thought it was a great picture to see the different layers.
The layers consist of...from top to bottom...grey is Cedar Mountain Formation. Lately here in Utah many Dinosaurs have been found in this layer. The next layer is the Brushy Basin Formation. You can find everything in these layers. Bottom is the Morrison Formation. Wood Heaven basically.
Just a few shots from a high vantage point.
The LaSal Mountains in the background.
Another shot...my truck in the background..
I was all alone except for a few little critters. I hope they know winter is around the corner!
Continue to Part 2....
