Forgot to post a pic of one of my best finds from the weekend rocksale. Got two bags of tumbling carnelian 15# total. really nice stuff ranging from pale pink to deep red and much of it is banded with white or black bands. Only thing is, I'm really good at identifying agate but cannot identify the source for this stuff. If any of you have an idea let me know. It appears to have been gathered broken and specifically for tumbling as all the pieces have a patina from weathering. Fifty year old stuff, exterior skins are mainly whitish and the nodules apparently small. I've tumbled lots of carnelian ( Brazilian, African, heat treated bots, Indian and Oregon stuff) but have never seen this type before. Looks to be the nicest tumbling carnelian I've ever had but I'm clueless where it's from.......Mel

Nice! It looks very similar to some carnelian that I purchased through The Little Red Store in California. I believe that material was from `an old estate sale`. Check out the site and e-mail Steve Hart. He may be able to suugest some source locations. I posted a photo of some polished pieces in this section.

Good quality stuff. The carnelian I get is almost too rough to tumble. It's gonna look great.

That all looks like high quality. not like the stuff I get! I sure hope you can find out where it was from! Fran

Been doing some research and I'm starting to think this is old material picked up as float in the Cooks Peak area of New Mexico, The appearance of the crust, patina and interiors looks good and it's not unusual for a Texas collector to travel to New Mexico areas to hunt......Mel
