Howdy folks, Spent the day yesterday working on my preforms for my first winter batch of cabs so I ran the saw while I was grinding. My project for this winter is going to be to cut cabs from as many south Texas materials as possible, especially the Rio Grande agates. Anyway, here are a couple of pics of some of the stuff I sawed yesterday. Thanks for looking.....Mel This has to be the best Rio Grande Moss I've ever cut. The agate base is clear and the moss is so bushy as to be almost plume like. Just started on a hunk of the Live Oak County shrinkwood. These are the first two cuts and are kinda crappy with only a small section good for cabs but the hunk looks as though the next cuts off will be more solid. Most the shrink wood seems to have fractured and then been resealed by yellow agate.

Bob: The moss slabs are fairly small, only 1" x 3" or so. I'll probably make one big freeform cab off each of them.
Ted: In Texas they call that stuff shrinkwood but it seems to be from a wide variety of wood species. I've not found any info on what species. The only Texas woods discussed in any of the books in my library are palm and cycad. I even have a big hunk of palm shrinkwood. The filling between the jasper wood hunks is agate in a variery of colors in the most common filling in shrinkwood being white, blue, yellow or red. There's a link to an article on this wood under my thread on the rough I got at this sale in the members photo section.....Mel

Mel - I agree the moss is nicer than most Rio Grand. I'd like to see more of the stinkwood as you cut it.

Those are really sweet Mel! Those two mosses will be perfect cabs and are pretty much shaped right now. Love the shrinkwood too! Fran
