After a several year break from tumbling, caused by an addiction to gold prospecting, I decided to run a batch of stones. It it a mixed batch that were all from my mining tailings in Oregon and California near Brookings. It has a little of everything, jaspers, quartz, agates, obsidian, and a bunch I can't ID. My three rotary tumblers decided that there were not going to run again (Harbor Freight), so I decided to convert my Frankford Arsenal case tumbler over to rocks by gluing a piece of rubber hose over the threaded shaft. I new nothing about vibratory tumblers for rock, so I started out with one day in 60/90 (and then read not to), two days in 220, two days in 500, and two days in cerium oxide. The rocks were burnished in between with borax. Both ceramic balls and plastic pellets were added. They turned out great considering all of the mistakes I made in the process and the crappy tumbler. Critiques welcome.

I know these come pre-tumbled, but considering thay only had one day in rough, they look really good

CW, welcome to the RTH. Your tumbles look pretty good. We like pictures here so next time spread those puppies out a little and take some close-ups...Gary

Thanks for all of the good comments. I have a batch of obsidian that I picked up in CO, in the tumbler now. I will post pics when it's finished, with closeups.
There are a few pieces of jasper that are much "redder" than the others. One is toward the center and one is near the bottom of the photo. Does anyone know what this blood red stone is called? I would like to find some more of it.
