Most of this material is road gravel collected from the gravel road by my house. No special handling. 1 month in 60/90 grit. 3 weeks in 220 grit. 2 weeks in 600 grit with lots of pellets. And 1 week in cerium oxide with lots of pellets. Burnish in Borax for 4 hours. Petrified wood Agate. Some like Montana moss Assorted agate & jasper And finally some prairie material from Railroad Buttes, S.D. Tumbled in my Thumlers Model-B Don

The gravel pits around here are filled with stuff brought down from Canada and N.D. by the last ice age. Even find an occasional piece of mammoth bone. Don

Yep, I just don't have good gravel here...What they put on the roads here they call blue chip. Looks like it would pit and chip away in the tumblers. That is really a beautiful batch! Fran

Those pieces are few and far between. I pick up the gravel when I walk the dog. Best hunting right after a rain, with the sun low in the sky.

Hey Don, that is a wonderful batch of "road gravel", our is blue chip and not very pretty. Now I can't wait to see the gravel you put in the traveling box! I was looking forward to it anyway but this batch is truly special. The girl scouts will love you. Tanya

love the found stuff! it looks like your white balance is off on your photos. you may want to adjust your white balance setting in camera.

Found the wife digging through the rocks this morning. She's picked out a couple that she wants bell caps on. Need to experiment with the camera. We have those recessed spotlights in the kitchen, where I take most of my pics. My wife bought replacement bulbs with a blue tint to them. I'll have to go get some of the daylight bulbs to replace them with.

I found some super sweet tumbling material in the decorative rock at a gas station outside of Rapid City, SD once. Red and white/yellow agate and jasper. Beautiful rocks are so nice around there, people are almost blase about it! Thanks for the pics and the reminder.
